You could be driving home on a cloudy morning, lost in your thoughts, neither happy nor sad. High above you the wind moves some clouds. You see light spread across the paddock next to the road and you notice all the stubble from last year's canola crop bristling in the sunshine. You find yourself remembering a book you read as a child, "Sun on the Stubble". It made you laugh then and you find yourself smiling now. You find yourself thinking of your father telling you about his boyhood on a farm. More smiling. Because of the wind blowing some clouds you find yourself happy for a while. Happy is good but you realise that none of this was chosen by you. In other external circumstances you may have found yourself experiencing a less welcome emotion, maybe sadness, or anger, or guilt. Again not chosen. Our minds are not entirely our own. It is like we are the audience of our thoughts. It is like a dream.
