All Aboard!
Back Blip
As R knows that I love surprises, he texted me a postcode at the last minute and met me at a place I'd not been to in nearly 50 years!
Apedale was an old mine but is now a heritage centre, with plenty of artifacts and information regarding mining life. Apparently there is a photograph of my grandfather in the museum but we couldn't find it.
The Apedale Valley Light Railway is also at the centre and the whole site is run by volunteers. Their engine, 'Stanhope' is dressed for Christmas and passengers are treated to a short trip along the track. Later the children get to meet Father Christmas and they are given a gift. Unfortunately George wasn't convinced by the white beard and glasses. He told Santa, "You can't be the real Father Christmas as your tummy isn't big enough!" Santa's reply was "Yes I am. I've been on a diet" :-)
R and I went for a meal later in an old pub down by a canal.
