Happy New Year blipmates!

Having settled for a New Year's Eve for two, after recent extremely sociable ones, we started the day with a visit to les Halles in Narbonne. It was heaving (last extra of the year). We bought some essentials such as steak and cheese, then retreated to the posh wine merchant for local fizz (blip) and Grand Frais for fruit and veg. And embarrassingly, Picard for dessert. The posh patisserie was closed and I couldn't be bothered to make one! Worse, I bought some artisan bread -- haven't had time to crank up the sourdough since we got back.

Back home we did some advance prep for dinner and I listed my favourite books of the year, inspired by PaulaJ.

And dinner: local fizz (blip for posterity -- the flutes were 1.20 each from Action and are too tall to fit in the dishwasher so I suspect they will have brief lives), foie gras with toast and home-made fig chutney (disclaimer: the foie gras was part of the gift basket the mairie gave us, I did not buy it!). Steak with Beurre Café de Paris ( an amazing and versatile condiment), spinach, gratin dauphinois. Cheese selection, and finally Picard's rather inferior tarte aux myrtilles served with crème fraîche and a glass of Muscat de St Jean de Minervois to top off our selection of local wines.

Thoroughly replete, we are now going to veg out with a film.
