Dark Days for Digital Village

Digital Village (DV 247, Music Village) has been in Cambridge for longer than me. Over the years I have bought several guitars in there, hundreds of plectrums and strings and the odd effects pedal.

It seems that the business failed, was put into administration and then quickly resold to a much larger German outfit. With the exception of one branch all staff were sacked.

The Management might have done what is known as a 'pre pack' whereby a business is put into administration and then immediately sold in a deal arranged before the administrator was appointed. This can be a useful way of shedding debt/employees/liabilities etc, etc.

There are more details or what might have happened On this blog.

Of course this is all supposition on my part (disclaimer, disclaimer) what I do know is that Duncan, Graham and Mark (loftie) and the rest of the folks in the Cambridge shop, really knew their onions and were madly passionate about music. Even though last month we got a shiny new music shop a few streets away (the cynic in me is wondering if the owners of that had wind of DV247's intentions) this is a big loss for Cambridge. A very sad day indeed...
