A beautiful day, so, after yesterday's trip to the estuaries, we decided that a visit to the proper seaside was in order. The A14 leads straight down to Felixstowe &, today being a holiday, there was a complete absence of container trucks on the road. Our walk took us through the nature reserve, past the viewing area for the port, past Landguard Fort, past the remains of various defence systems & out to Landguard Point, then back along the beach & seafront. As the whole world & its dog (or several) seemed to be there enjoying the sunshine we didn't go right up to the pier.

The main image is from the beach just past the port viewing area - the docks were slowly getting back to work today & several ships had come in since we were down on the other side of the river yesterday. The extra is of the old wooden jetty at Landguard Point, originally used to service the Fort, which itself has had several reincarnations since it was first built to protect Harwich Harbour in the 16th century. I've Blipped both views before, but I can't resist the ships, cranes & containers - or the weathered wooden beams of the old jetty (& there's actually a cormorant sitting on the marker at the end!).
