Face

Thanks for the love on the New Year’s day post. I have read all comments and have responded to none, though I do reciprocate every wish. I’m in a whirl of projects, all of which are life-giving.

This morning I completed a book for my friend who has renal cancer: the 56 photos I have made of him and his wife at social justice actions we have participated in since 2017, with a collection of his favorite Buddhist teachings from contemporary teachers. One of those: “Calling on the blessings of Audre Lorde, may I erupt into spontaneous joy, and may this joy be how I wage political warfare—Lama Rod Owens.”

I processed some of Sue’s sister’s photos for her forthcoming Etsy site; watched daughter-in-law Cristina on TV (offering tips for cleaning and organizing closets); worked on some photos of Sue’s little air-dry masks; and then set out on foot to do errands. Took the tapestry made in Lesotho to the dry cleaner, preliminary to giving it to my son; got a few groceries; and went to the library to collect Face, as recommended by Sue Foll. That’s why I chose this photo for today. A smiling face in goggles or sunglasses, if you can find it. She waved to me, I waved to her, I made the photograph, she gave me a thumb’s up. A moment of connection beneath the last bit of blue sky we’re likely to see this week.
