La vida de Annie

Excitement today was our first trip to the council tip, to dispose of an uncomfortable old sofa. The thing was solid wood and metal frame and recliner mechanism, and so heavy it took 3 burly men to get it into the house when we moved 3 years ago. After much thought on how to dispose of it - the council will collect large household items from the roadside by appointment - there still remained the task of getting it out and up the slope to the road. OH had the brainwave of breaking it down into manageable pieces, which he managed to do over a few hours of hard work - the thing was very well made. No coins or valuables were found inside, just a dozen dog bones/ chews and a mountain of fur from the late departed mutt, Bob, who still leaves his constantly-shedding fur to be discovered in nooks and crannies around the house. The disposal was quite quick and simple, under the eagle eye of a very stern lady in a high-viz jacket, supervising the separate skips for metal and wooden pieces. (The Oxford comma should be enough to make clear that the lady, not the jacket, was doing the supervising).
