BathTime and A Major Scare

Our bog is a very popular bathing spot for the birds. Check the *extra...for another shot of this Blue Jay.
C and I returned home yesterday afternoon having eaten lunch out and then picked up Tara from the Vet School (see yesterday's blip) to a scary situation at home. Fletcher, who always manages to get into something when left alone in the house, snatched a just purchased bag of Ghirardelli Bittersweet Chocolate Chips. The bag was put where we thought he couldn't reach it, but...! He ate all 10oz and we had no idea when it was actually consumed. Since chocolate can be fatal for dogs we knew that we needed to act quickly. Called our vet, they were swamped and suggested we contact the local 'Urgent Vet', who told me to call 'Pet Poison Helpline'. They were very helpful and now we know how to deal with this type of emergency. I won't go into the specifics, only to say it involved 3tbs of Hydrogen Peroxide and running him around outside for about 10 minutes. We were fortunate that most of that 'delicious dark chocolate' ended up on the grass. He showed no ill effects afterwards. I took him to our vet's this morning and we are still in a 'wait and see' situation. It seems that any chocolate digested can cause problems even days later.
Here's the number (U.S) for 'Pet Poison Helpline' (855) 764-7661. There's a $75 charge but their immediate help was certainly worth it!
