After the Kyna.

Shafts and holes

The area towards the railway line, beloved of dog walkers, has long been designated for house building. Various proposals through the years, 76 units, 125 units and the most recent for 106, what the plans call homes (but they are not homes until owners turn the house into a home) was accepted, despite a lack of attention to detail, such as flooding, and saying the access road should be through the electricity sub station.
Various exploration activities last summer, big machines probing the earth implied the planners, knew what was going on in the area which had mined for coal many years ago.
After the acceptance of the plans, suddenly a large area was fenced off (one side was 52 yards,) with the attached notices. I could see what looked like the part of a shaft and not far from it, a hole that I was very glad Kyna could not explore.
It will be interesting to see how long it takes to sort out.
