Funeral afters

It wasn’t really a funeral. My dear, dear neighbour and great friend Susan died two years ago on this date, but Covid meant the usual farewells didn’t happen. Instead, her children arranged a little ceremony this morning by burying her ashes in the family grave in Glasnevin Cemetery. Carl and I attended.

It was a sad occasion, the first time I’d we’d been at such an event (which is increasingly becoming a done thing, apparently). The weather behaved as if it was a traditional funeral by adding rain to the mix as we gathered round the grave.

Susan was wonderful character and a great party animal, so it was only appropriate that we all went on afterwards for what had been advertised as “a knees-up”. We gathered in Clontarf Castle (that’s the blip) for lunch and drinks and chat. Ah, memories … We did you proud, Susan.
