Escape

The weather forecast for today was terrible, so it came as a bit of surprise that the early downpours had eased in time for our Ramblers walk from Abronhill, through Forest Wood and up to Palacerigg Country Park in Cumbernauld.

In fact, it stayed relatively dry for most of our walk (which took us a little over two and a half hours) and the rain only started again in earnest as we made our way back down past the tree sculptures (pictured) in Forest Wood towards our start-point.

By the time we had our post-walk coffee and blether, though, it had started again in earnest and was pretty dreadful as the afternoon wore on, with the wind getting up a bit too. I think we had a lucky escape!

I have blipped this sculpture before, but today wasn't a day for taking many photos and this is about the best of those that I did take. While at Palacerigg we heard, then saw, a woodpecker. Managed to get a photo of it and, with a bit of faffing around on the computer afterwards I managed to make it almost recognisable (see extra).
