Hadley's Orient Hotel

The start of our day was punctuated with frustrations but eventually we settled in to our hotel. Hadley's Orient Hotel first operated in 1868 and is heritage listed. Over the years the hotel has had many high profile guests including the explorer Roald Amundson who reached the south pole in December 1911. In March 1912 he arrived in Hobart and it was from this hotel that the news of the success of his expedition was sent out to the world.

The hotel has an old world gloom as shown in the decaying arrangement of native flowers that adorn the mantle piece in the bar.

Our day also included an evening stroll around the docks in the brightest of sunlight, a fishy meal and a stunningly good whisky at one of the local brewers. Tomorrow we're off to Bruny Island for an adventure of land and sea scapes and local produce.

Better go set the alarm. Thanks for hosting BikerBear. Thanks also to all the blip friends who wished us happy trails. Will catch up soonish.
