Up Helly Aa Season

After a couple of years off due to Covid Shetland's Up Helly Aa season kicks off tonight with the Scalloway event. This is the galley head for this years procession but it will soon be no more as it is set alight after the procession. I always say I'm a fair weather Up Helly Aa watcher but although the extra shows fair weather at Scalloway I'll be giving it a  miss again this year. Traditionally Shetland's flu season starts at the end of January once the big Lerwick festival has taken place and the local health board has issued  warnings asking everyone to take what precautions they can to stop the spread. Some hope I'm afraid.
