The aqueduct at the Wheel.

The aqueduct at the Falkirk Wheel, the rotating boat lift that connects the Union and Forth and Clyde Canals. It’s the only rotating boatlift in the world.

The 20m high aqueduct terminates in mid air. Boats pass to and from the Wheel caisson through watertight doors and a seal at the end of the aqueduct, and the caisson doors. Very clever.

View across the valley to the north, with a cool blue sky. No rain today.
