Up Helly Aa Season Returns
A beautiful calm and sunny day, blue skies all day. Still calm tonight, just typical, rain came in.
Day off, and slept well after yesterday's events. More pain had set in after the adrenaline calmed, but I'm sure I'll survive. Scalloway Fire Festival is back, and went to see the Jarl Squad morning procession, followed by tea in the youth centre. An afternoon planting well overdue bulbs, which kept my mind away from things. Mam, Laura, Shaun and Olly popped by in the afternoon. Off out tonight, but will be taking it easy. A long night of silly acts ahead.
With Covid-19 a thing of the past (almost), Shetland's winter festivals have returned, Up Helly Aa. Today is the first of the year, starting with the Scalloway Fire Festival. The Jarl Squad always dressed as Vikings, and the other squads doing various acts, mostly taking the Mickey out of events throughout the year. This was the light up of the torches for tonight's torch lit procession. Six public halls host the guests and squads. Shame I'm not taking part in the nonsense, due to my sciatica. Taken at Lover's Loan, Scalloway.
