The Kalimba is a metal tongued instrument played by plucking the tines with the thumbs. They come in all sorts of variations, but this one is mounted on a membrane in a wooden box. So when you play it the sounds resonate through the membrane. I played this at a sound bath today and as I walked near the fibre optic lights the colours came through the membrane. I asked one of the ladies if she would help me take this photo by holding it over the light. Magic!
