Water meadows working here

Tewksbury and its Abbey were marooned today. The ancient water meadows play an invaluable role in protecting settlements from flooding. However, some of the homes on the river bank have to be approached wearing waders. Our planned walk around The Ham and through Victoria Park were off limits so we walked in the magnificent Abbey and along the High Street. Despite the sun it was still below freezing with ice on the water meadows edges.
