Rodley Nature Reserve.

Another beautiful day. Blue sky and sunshine. I don’t mind the 1C although it did reach 4C by lunchtime.

We started with a late breakfast at the Beulah Bistro, Farnley, Nr Leeds. ( Better food than Betty’s even if not as plush surroundings)

It was then on to Rodley where we managed to park near the canal. We were lucky as someone was just leaving.
Then a walk along the canal to Rodley Nature Reserve.
Unfortunately it has only been open on Sundays over twelve months as there has been no access for cars due to the building of a new bridge over the Leeds Liverpool canal. However the bridge should be finished by the end of the month. ( fingers crossed as it is already 6 months overdue) ( see extra) and so they have decided to reopen on Wednesdays again, although you still can’t reach the car park.

Most of the lagoons were iced over but there were still plenty of birds to see, and also it was a nice walk round. No muddy paths!

We did spot a dead Canada goose out in the middle of one of the lagoons. Reported it to the visitor centre, but they already knew about it. They have had about six die because of bird flu. They aren’t allowed to touch them, but have been reported to DEFRA.

Highlight was seeing the bullfinches and a flock of linnets.( no photos) Then watching the goosanders diving on the canal.

A thoroughly enjoyable day out.
