Ice shards, Derwentwater

Met up with a friend from the Camera club again today - we spent a good few hours photographing around Derwentwater, both in the Isthmus Bay, and by Manesty woods.

The main pic shows where the waters had reached last week, ice formed over the top and the water has drained away. The remaining ice was wafer thin - in some areas it had even contoured over the land (and I've never seen curved ice before). Shot as a two shot focus stack at different shutter speeds (The foreground was much darker than the sky, and even an ND grad didn't totally solve the exposure issue) and combined manually in PS

The extra is from the Isthmus - a big stopper allowed a 30 second exposure to really smooth out the slight ripple on the water.

Both (of course) look best large on black
