Industrial Room With A View

Very fruitful morning filming and recording sounds on various floors inside the R&H Hall warehouse in the docklands (circa 1930s). A bulk cargo ship was discharging grain. We had an appointment to interview the manager, Joe, but he didn't have time; the ship was a 'submarine' (i.e. had appeared in port without much advance warning) so Joe and the few stevedores who work there were very busy. So it was extremely good of them to spare one man, Pat (one of two Pat's) to bring us up to the top floors and elsewhere. The whole building was furiously vibrating with the noise and weight of the grain, funneling through various conduits and silos, emptying into waiting lorries. Again, I felt like a tiny mouselike creature lost inside a vast percussive instrument. Wonderful, but not something I'd want to do every day.
