The Lozarithm Lens

Flower Friday (20th January 2023)

This is the first of what I hope will be many snowdrops in the Woodland Garden and so is an early sign of things to come. There is a sizeable clump behind it. There are also a lot of Russian snowdrops that were planted in 2022 yet to appear. With thanks to BikerBear for Flower Friday.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
The Blue Flames - Orange Street (1963)
I have been playing an excellent compilation put together by the people at Ace called A Snapshot In Time, covering the first stirrings of modernism, 1960-1963. One track I did not know, one that gets missed from Georgie Fame's discographies, is this instrumental credited just to his band the Blue Flames although his distinctive Hammond organ sound is quite prominent. It was recorded for a label called R&B that specialised in Jamaican blu-beat although this was recorded in Stamford Hill during Georgie Fame's residence at the Flamingo, before he signed to Columbia and made Yeh Yeh. The tune owes a lot to the song Pink Champagne by Joe Liggins, which Georgie Fame recorded in 1964 for his album Fame At Last.
