"You take the high road and I'll take the low road" seems to have been the theme song for these two swans on the Forth and Clyde Canal this afternoon. As you can see, parts of the Canal still had a covering layer of ice and it was clear to see that the swans were far more comfortable in the water than on it.

One swan (see extra) was having a bit of difficulty navigating that part of the Canal which hadn't fully thawed, but after several minutes of what seemed very hard going, it found a bit that was more to its liking.

A short distance further on and I had the pleasure of watching two swans fly in and land on the frozen surface, gliding (seemingly) effortlessly and (definitely) gracefully to a stop within the space of a few feet. Unfortunately I wasn't in time to photograph it as the action happened behind me and all too quickly, but it was a sight to behold.
