Errol Lloyd

A couple of days ago, a friend and I re-visited the Paint Like the Swallow Sings Calypso exhibition at Kettle's Yard in Cambridge. We were there to catch a talk by one of the featured artists, Errol Lloyd.

As the exhibition illustrates, Lloyd (Jamaican-born artist, writer, art critic, editor and arts administrator) is one of a number of post-war Black British artists who produced high quality works but did not have access to the usual mainstream outlets to get their work seen. So they organised themselves, specifically through the Caribbean Artists Movement (CAM)

Lloyd, now 80, gave an articulate and passionate talk.

Thankfully, artists such as Lloyd are now getting greater recognition and appreciation.
