A taxing situation....

As an Exciseman, Rabbie Burns knew a fair bit about tax-dodgers. Here's one of his poems on the subject of MPs who thought the law didn't apply to them....

'Fair fa' dishonest fibbin' face,
Great sidekick in the Tory-race!
Aboon them a' ye tak your place,
wi' money hidden.
Weel are you a huge disgrace,
Ye foolish midden.

Your groaning pockets there you fill,
The truth, to you, a distant hill!
Your tax would pay a hospice bill,
In time o' need.
And even now you're lying still
So full o' greed....'
