The Working Life

"Hey, there's my blip!" I said, fumbling for my camera as the traffic light kindly paused. We were carpooling to Salem at seven in the morning, three earnest young lawyers and me the older, less earnest, one.

Somehow the talk turned to money and how hard it is to decide how much to want it, how much to focus life toward or away from it. At this point in life, we were choosing the firm path of in between, laboring in honest, or even dull work for a predictable payoff and little chance of fame or fortune or even happiness in the work. But we look elsewhere for those things. And we are all young at heart.
