Lucky lanterns

BACKBLIP: I was unable to blip while I was away in China for over two weeks in November (blipfoto is not accessible therge) and was busy when we came home so I missed a lot of daily blips. I'm attempting to catch up!

Today was our last full day in China. We spent the afternoon exploring one of the remaining areas of hutong, traditional low-rise buildings with courtyards. As many of these have been swept away by the whirlwind of modernising high-rise development, it was great to see what much of Beijing used to look like. Thes street through which we entered the area was festooned with these lovely red lanterns, which you see all over Beijing.
