Rant

Is this a good place for a rant? Well here goes anyway.
Auckland is full of silly little grass verges called berms which serve little purpose other than as a canine relief station, somewhere to plonk wheelie bins and something to impress your neighbours as to how tidy you are. I constantly see people, often paid gardeners, mowing these silly things even when they don’t need it and then trimming the edges and finally using a blower to scatter the cuttings all over the place. This usually involves three different fossil fuelled gadgets making a lot of noise and pollution.
The berms are regularly described as ecologically useless as they do not absorb any carbon, often are treated with noxious chemicals and the mowing and other attention create unneeded pollution.
So here is our berm which I reluctantly trim with a battery mower to keep the other residents happy. I do not trim the edges as the grass naturally stops there. However someone, I know not who, has sprayed the edge with herbicide creating this ugly statement of stupidity.
How much better to plant some lavender or even rhubarb, or anything other than grass that needs to be treated with poisonous chemicals..
