More motoring history

It has always fascinated me that the Morris 8 has an oil can mounted in front of the battery box. We would never dream of carrying spare oil in a modern car but this was essential in the 1930's. Cars burnt a little oil in their daily running and leaked a lot  on the road.
The original oil bottle has history
C C Wakefield and Co. Castrol Motor Oil,London W1. The company was founded by Charles Cheers Wakefield in 1899.  Castrol, a vegetable oil was added in 1919 hence a name change for the company. The company was eventually taken over in the 1960's and became part of BP.
