Gothic Nights

If the children do their homework and chores, we let them watch twenty minutes of a DVD in the evening. We take it in turns to choose the DVD. At the moment it is my choice; Charles Laughton's Hunchback of Notre Dame; still one of the greatest movies ever made from the year which also gave us Citizen Kane and Wizard Of Oz. 1939. Such a shame Laughton missed out on the Oscar; his performance is sublime. After the Gothic wonder of Notre Dame, the final chapter (13, of course) of Coraline. Tomorrow night's bedtime story? The Pit and the Pendulum. Nah. Only joking. Roald Dahl's The Witches.
