Discovering a bit of family history...

Going through some old papers, I found this newspaper photograph of my dad with a group of men from his town going off to basic training in 1944.  A few months later he would land in France for the Allied invasion of Europe.  He is in the last row, fifth from the left.  Friday was Holocaust Remembrance Day.  Dad wrote home about seeing the camps.  "At one place they had these big furnaces to burn the bodies of prisoners when they died or were killed by the SS guard.  You can never imagine what it is like unless you see it with your own eyes."  No, we can't but we must never forget the horror or the brave men who liberated those camps.
