The dropped stitch

By Bodkin

January gardening

J and I had arranged a gardening morning, in spite of the forecast. We doggedly stuck to our plans, with the wind speed increasing and the showers turning into persistent rain. We pruned the Rosa rugosa for 30 minutes and then had to admit defeat.
We were wet and windblown but triumphant that we had at least done 'something'.

In a sheltered spot by the wall the first snowdrops have appeared. Also in flower: one narcissus, a tiny, delicate crocus and some yellow aconites. How tough these little plants must be!
