Among the ancestors

Mine were weavers, sixteenth century refugees from religious persecution in France. Settling in Norwich they became Freemen of the City. I recall my mother announcing "if their name was Freeman they must be Jewish". Let's draw a veil over that.

All this probably explains my aversion to organised religion, a constant and fruitful source of violence against others.
