Unusual clouds

There was a display of unusual clouds just before sunrise this morning. These are nacreous clouds (or "mother of pearl" clouds). They consist of ice crystals at very high altitudes and are formed when very cold polar air comes further south than usual. Because they are at high altitude, they are lit up by the sun before it has risen at ground level. Because they are so unusual, I have put more examples in the extras.
