Grandsire

Out with the Tuesday crowd for a morning march around School Knott.  At least the rain stopped although it was still dull, windy and cold, the blue sky in the distance never reached us.  We are crossing over the lower part of the Wainwright Outlying Fell named Grandsire at this point which got us wondering what the name meant.  One of the group who has done some bell ringing,  lost the rest of us talking about change ringing and odd bells. We just thought it meant Grandfather. Of the three hills here, Grandsire is the highest so perhaps that's how it got its name.
