A New One for Me

Heptagonal Orb-weaver, Gea heptagon, is a new spidy species for me. A native of Pacific Islands and Australia, this tiny, only 1/4 inch not counting its legs, arachnid has been introduced into the U.S. and Argentina. It builds its small web in grass and low growing plants. See the *extra. The web is only noticeable when there is a heavy dew. When the Heptagon is disturbed it typically drops down to the ground where its color changes to a darker brown for camouflage. What a cutie!
