Dinner with parrots

A quick blip before we head out for drinks in the next door establishment ( involving a 15 minute walk!) - on a much warmer, sunnier day than we’ve been having . Breakfast was a prolonged affair - not because we ate too much, but because of what I will politely term sequencing problems in the serving team.. After that I felt like a wee lie down in the sun, as a result of which it was midday before we got out.

Walked down to the shore and into town to visit the cathedral (didn’t really see much of it on our last visit as it was a Sunday and the cathedral was crammed). Interesting new organ and choir set-up, complete with mics, in a side-chapel where Himself coveted the adjustable organ bench amid other things, and rather splendidly patterned roof.

To Blandy’s to order a bottle of Madeira for collection at the airport, then back to find the pavement cafe of the coffee and honey cake, before returning along the front to climb the endless hill home. Thighs of steel, I tell you …

We enjoyed our cocktails hugely, then padded off to the restaurant we’ve already visited twice, and whose greeter had waved across the road to me a couple of hours earlier. There we had huge skewers of steak (tender and tasty), a jug of wine, dos picas, and the customary complimentary Madeira, and had a chat on the way out with the resident (and trademark) parrots. Reader, I stroked the red one - she’s the female. They don’t talk, but one made a very good stab tonight at being a car horn …
