Bomber

Bomber

I was watching the 70th anniversary commemoration of the Dam Busters squadron set in the original base in Lincoln. Some of the original footage of pilots and ground crew preparing for raids was quite emotive. My father was in the RAF under Bomber Command and some of his original pictures were very similar. It does not seem so very long ago. He made this model of a Wellington Bomber I think when he was an apprentice before becoming an aircraft technician servicing four engine Stirling Bombers - then serving in India and Burma. I do not think we ever appreciated what he went through, as like many other ex servicemen, he never really talked about the war and his experiences. How incredibly brave they all were. We are now a poor reflection of them, and a nation of 'wimps' perhaps.

All people (conservatives and UKIP mainly) can talk about is leaving Europe. Yet, we fought so hard to unify it, and get over all those terrible problems. Can people just look beyond profit, economy and their own self interest, towards a more unified, safe, fair and equal society across a free European Union.

Remember the second world war. Remember the bombers. The EU was formed to make all this never happen again.
