Contrabassoon (RadioFrance, Ciné-concert)

Very happy we've learned about the wonderful concerts at Radio-France! Tonight was a "Ciné-Concert"... They projected a restored copy of a silent film from 1927, Walter Ruttmann's "Berlin, Symphony of a Metropolis", and paired it with an original score by contemporary French composer David Hudry. Hudry was in the audience for this premiere and came out at the end to much applause! The film was visually really interesting... we were surprised by all of the horses still being used for transportation on the streets of Berlin, alongside buses, trains and bicycles. It was fun to see what people were wearing, eating, how they worked and navigated the city. The music was really fun - lots of percussion and some instruments you don't often hear, like this contrabassoon (photo taken when she was entering before the concert started), a bass trombone, & bass clarinet. We bought tickets to the next ciné-concert, the last in the series, as soon as we got home.

J was really pleased with his bike ride this afternoon: 66km in the Bois de Boulogne.
