Bridge 168 - Trent & Mersey

This is bridge 168, Wardle Canal bridge, on the Trent and Mersey canal at Middlewich. It is a grade II listed building.

Probably of more interest than the bridge itself is the canal which, at 154ft, is the shortest canal in the UK. Wardle Canal runs between the bridge and Wardle Lock where I was standing taking the photo.

The canal was built in 1829 and links the Trent & Mersey canal (on the other side of the bridge) and the Middlewich branch of the Shropshire Union Canal which is behind me.
