Sculptural

Spent the weekend with Sue, who didn't want to be my Blip subject, so you get a lovely sculptural chair, rosewood with nicely padded seat and firm back support. We cavorted in a cavernous used furniture store where we were the only customers. We sat in a hundred or so chairs, rocked back, made comparisons. Sue sang, I laughed, and the proprietor left us to play on our own. These two, chosen from a thousand, have now replaced the hard wooden ones I've used for years, ones that left me with grinding backaches and the threat of sciatica, especially after three-hour Zoom meetings.

Sue observed that Marguerite Young and Wislawa Szymborska are talking to each other. We don't know if they ever knew each other's work. She read aloud from one and then the other. A cosmic dialogue.

Hearing the horrors of the earthquake, five thousand or more killed, 30,000 injured, we sat silent, stunned. Then turned again to Szymborska:

Reality demands
that we also mention this:
Life goes on.
It continues at Cannae and Borodino,
at Kosovo Polje and Guernica.

There's a gas station
on a little square in Jericho,
and wet paint on park benches in Bila Hora....

We think of those who, in a flash, at 4 a.m., lost the whole world. I have two new chairs. It all happens at the same time. No one deserves anything more than a woman searching for her child in the rubble.
