The return of beloved Fyra

This is the third spring that I was sure my tame little friend had not made it through the winter. She appeared last night while we were sitting out in our chairs having a lovely beer before supper. The air was warm and filled with birdsong, no mosquitoes yet, just divine. When we went to go out I saw the flash of chipmunk stripes and a little animal didn't seem as timid as the others. We sat down and she popped up again. Notched ear, that missing toe joint, so precious and friendly, it was Fyra. She hopped up on my chair and took the waiting peanuts and eventually the ones I had balanced on my leg. She sat softly in my lap, my weightless little wonder, Fyra. Of course I had tears of joy.
