The shadow of Combe Gibbet

Very cold and foggy cycle out to Walbury Hill, the highest point in south east England (not saying much) and Combe Gibbet. But the sun burnt through finally and the view made it all worth it.

Combe Gibbet was built in the 17th century to display the corpses of two lovers who had been executed for murdering family members who found them together in the local countryside. For some macabre reason a series of replica gibbets has been constructed over the centuries whenever the previous gibbet was struck by lightning or otherwise damaged, but needless to say this one is not in use in 2023 - as far as I know!
