Scavenging

Lazy start to the day (once I’d again moved the car to a legitimate parking space first thing!) and we dithered a bit about where to go as the weather forecast keeps changing and the real weather doesn’t seem to be playing along with it anyway! Still, looked like it would be a nicer day today than tomorrow so went to South Queensferry to the sea glass beach where as usual we picked up so many pieces and enjoyed sifting through the pebbles and shells. Lots of plans of artworks we might make with them all but somehow I suspect K and Kt more likely to achieve those than me!
Pootled through the various shops and had some coffee and bought cakes for later, then back to the car in drizzle. The pub we’d planned to go to was closed (grr!) so we went to Hopetoun garden centre and had some tasty soup, baked potatoes etc and looked around the plants. I got a primula to replace a dead cyclamen in my window box and a new houseplant, T was very taken by the scent of a plant we walked past, flowering modestly but giving out a powerful honey sweet smell. We bought it and I’ll drive it down next time I go (although by the end of the day I’d had to put it outside the window as the scent was so overwhelming that even outside my front door it permeated the flat and probably the neighbours’ too!).
Abandoned the idea of the Blackness Castle/woods walk as the drizzle was by now quite persistent (annoyingly…..think they’d have liked to go there), but as we drove back to town the sun broke through and was lovely!
When we got home we were all whacked out so after tea and the cakes we’d bought and a quick game of Scrabble we dispersed for a combination of quiet browsing online, Ted Lasso watching or napping.
In the evening we went to a newish place round the corner called Junk…which revolved around inventive re-interpretations of street food. Delicious….we ordered a range of things and shared them all (extras are the soft shell crab and the lamb flatbread). Cocktails and chat and great flavours meant we had a good time, discussing at one point what bees eat and opening up whole areas of ignorance!
T&Kt went on to a pub after but K and I came back to bed….much too late for old ladies to be out!
