Ovenbird--singing!

Our first outing of the year to Poet's Seat in Greenfield. Poor pickings for a while; then we began to hear the vivid songs of a couple of ovenbirds. Finally this one made a cooperative appearance (though quite high). The distinctive orange crest shows well here (also see the images in the link below, and a video with the song).

This has always been a good spot for Ovenbirds (Seiurus aurocapilla). They are a species of new world wood warbler, named from their habit of constructing domed nests of dead leaves and other plant materials on the ground.

NB: I've just backdated/backblipped another ovenbird taken nearly nine years ago at the same location--it shows the crown very vividly :) AND (2013-5-20) I've set up a tagged series of my new world warblers.
