a lifetime burning

Larry

Back when I was working, I used to know a very outgoing chap called, well, let's just call him Larry (not his real name, obviously).  Larry was terribly good company and ever so fond of a long lunch which generally came accompanied by a lost afternoon.  Perhaps because of that he was quite stout for a short chap.  I don't know what it is, but there's something about this male chaffinch that brings Larry to mind.

At this time of year the male chaffinches colours are at their best, as you can see here.  Larry here could almost have been tailored by Paul Smith.

Today's shot has a better background than yesterday's, at least to my eyes.  There's enough of a sense of the nearby branches to break up the monotony without competing with the subject for attention.  Not much I can do about that blue sky though - how awful to have such problems ;-).

Yes, the cloud cover has diminished and is due to stay that way for today and tomorrow before the rain comes back.
