A New Day

Mellerstain House, near Kelso

We drove down to the Scottish Borders early today so that my husband could go salmon fishing again with his friend on the River Tweed. What a superb day for it!! Sunshine all day long, with just a hint of chill in the breeze when in the shade.

We ladies decided to do our own thing and had a lovely day, visiting a pottery, the Leaderfoot Viaduct and then Mellerstain House, an exquisite 18th century country house designed by William and Robert Adams (father and son). The rooms designed by Robert Adams are among the best I've seen with wonderful attention to every detail. The staff were delightful too and couldn't have been more friendly and knowledgable about "their" house!

A delicious meal in a local hostelry followed and then the long drive home, accompanied all the way by a glorious sunset to end a lovely day. Memories are made of this:-)
