An Elephant in Vauxhall

Continuing my journey back to Cumbria after breaking it at my brother's in  Epsom for rest, support and a few glasses of wine.  Changing at Vauxhall I noticed this building which was obviously once a Elephant and Castle pub even though its now a Starbucks. Apparently there have been at least 15 Elephant and Castle pubs in London although there is divided opinion as to the origin of the name.
From the "Know Your London" website " The name is generally accepted to be derived from the sign of the Cutlers’ Company who held property nearby. The first appearance of the sign is believed to have been in the 1770s. In 1622 the Cutlers’ crest, of the elephant’s head, was superseded by that of the elephant and castle."  Nothing to do with the ‘Infanta de Castilla’, a  reference to Spanish princesses such as Eleanor of Castile and María, the daughter of Philip III of Spain, which is what I had been told when I lived in South London many moons ago.
