Truly Blippin' Marvelous

"Let's

all go dahn the Strand ... 'ave a banana." (extra). I think this was given to me. There is a penciled second-hand book price of 25p; that's twice the original price in old money.

I've just finished my romp through Christopher Fowler's Bryant&May: Peculiar London (the city of mystery as you've never seen it before). A jaunt all over London much like Joolz Guides on Youtube.

"To make the right historical connections you must traverse a minefield. It's a bit like those people who set out to uncover the identity of Jack the Ripper and get lost in the back-doubles of its mythology. London mythologizes itself. Look back and before you know it you'll be immersed in tales of druids and sun cults. Search for Caesar's encampment in London and you'll find yourself right opposite the headquarters of the Peculiar Crimes Unit in King's Cross. When no evidence of the past is left for us to see, all we can do is turn to the myths. Luckily it's a city built on stories, and those remain for us to discover them." p442-3
