Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Carmen McRae and The Dave Brubeck Quartet - Take Five (recorded live, Basin Street East, New York NY,  6 September 1961)
I've always loved Dave Brubeck's Take Five which was written by his alto sax player Paul Desmond as a vehicle for the drummer Joe Morello to demonstrate his 5/4 time skills. It is also a favourite of Cerys Matthew's who has used it on the Add To Playlist Radio 4 series and has played different versions of the piece on her Sunday morning Radio 6 show, which in turn has led to me so far featuring versions on my LOTDs by Chet Atkins, Helen and the Horns (a favourite), The Sachal Studio Orchestra sitar version and now this 1961 version featuring Carmen McRea, which she played on her show on 5 February. The lyric was newly written by Dave Brubeck's wife Iola Brubeck.
