tempus fugit

The trees along the estuary here (mostly alder and sycamore)  are hanging on for dear life  by their remaining embedded roots - the rest of their substrate has been washed away by the  combined lick and suck of  tides and  river flow. It's an ongoing process hastened no doubt by climate change.
The shoreline here is my favourite location for picking sea beet which is just coming into its best season. Unlike these beleagured trees it can reroot again after being washed away if the tide drops it somewhere else.
We picked a bagful to have with a fish pie. I always feel the two go together.
